I started my garden last week! I decided to start from seeds, indoors, in little special seedling fiber pots. Once the seeds take off, I drop them in the bigger pots on my deck.
I usually stick to herbs like chives and basil because they go from spring almost all the way to fall. I've heard great things about those topsy turvy tomato planters and I'm thinking of trying one this year.
Go to any place with a gardening center and they can give you info on specific plants that will do well with whatever sun exposure you have on your patio. Also hit the first few weeks of the farmer's market- lots of great plants already healthy and growing.
There are a ton of blogs and books about apartment gardening- check out the local library!

Gas grills are the only permitted type of grill allowed at any HP community. Charcoal grills are not permitted as they can be very dangerous.

I'm one to usually go with a banana in the morning, as I've heard it's good if you spend a lot of time on your feet. If I'm looking for something a bit more filling, I'll go for a toaster scramble, at 180 calories, it's a pretty good breakfast.

Raccoon River Brewing Company downtown is very good. Right next door is Django's which is also very good and one of the top 10 restaurants in the US!

Normally residents are responsible for replacing their own light bulbs, replacing thermostat batteries (if applicable), and replacing smoke detector batteries. However, Haverkamp Properties would be more than happy to assist if you are unsure on how to replace the batteries and if light bulbs are too high to reach. We would rather you call us than risk injuring yourself to change a light bulb.
