Perhaps the most well-known event is the 80/35 Music Festival that’s grown significantly over the last few years. This year’s festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday and features bands like Yo La Tengo, Spoon, Slightly Stoopid, William Elliot Whitmore, and Modest Mouse. It’s located at Western Gateway Park downtown, and you can purchase one and two-day passes at the gate.

Another family event not to be missed is Living History Farm’s celebration of independence day. The venue will be open most of the day and will have plenty of entertainment including root beer floats, Civil War era music, children’s crafts, pie eating contests, and more. The cost is $11.50 for adults, $10.50 for seniors, and $7 for ages 3 – 12.

The event is family-friendly and a great way for parents and children to unwind at the end of a long week. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks – for a great event that doesn’t require them to spend a lot of money. Kids can also take part in several fun events like face painting and a raffle drawing. And, there will be free popcorn and soft drinks available for a minimal charge.

The Park, located behind Wal-Mart on 73rd Street, can fit up to 1,200 people. The park is currently undergoing a 20-year plan that will renovate areas of the park, add a baseball field and community center, which is scheduled to open up on July 26. The owner, Kennie Smith, has been creating them from her home since November and selling them to local businesses. Some of the most popular flavors include raspberry fudge, chocolate truffle, and turtle. Other flavors offered include Almond Joy, New York Style, and Hawaiian. Prices range from $25 – $30 and should be ordered 24 to 48 hours in advance for a whole cheesecake.
