Des Moines residents will have plenty to do this summer, thanks to events happening all around the metro area. One of the most unique is a free outdoor summer film series happening at Colby Park in Windsor Heights. The park is ideally located in the middle of the city so it’s a great choice for residents in all suburbs, as well as downtown. The first movie night is Friday, June 11, when they’ll be playing “Field of Dreams.”
The event is family-friendly and a great way for parents and children to unwind at the end of a long week. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks – for a great event that doesn’t require them to spend a lot of money. Kids can also take part in several fun events like face painting and a raffle drawing. And, there will be free popcorn and soft drinks available for a minimal charge.
The Park, located behind Wal-Mart on 73rd Street, can fit up to 1,200 people. The park is currently undergoing a 20-year plan that will renovate areas of the park, add a baseball field and community center, which is scheduled to open up on July 26.
